The Pictou Curling Club dates back to 1850 when club members could be found playing on various ponds around the Town of Pictou. The formation date of the Club makes it the second oldest Curling Club in Nova Scotia and the third oldest in Canada.
In 1852 the club sought and achieved accreditation by the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in Scotland. Soon after the club was renamed in honor of the RCCC, becoming the New Caledonian Curling Club. The club moved to their present indoor location along the Pictou waterfront in 1910. The tidally-influenced sand floor were replaced with three-sheet, concrete floor in the 1980’s and the club house was added a few years later.
Since then the club has played host to many tournaments and offers programs for all ages.
The club will be kicking off 2023 with two major events including the the Strathacona Cup Tour on January 18. The Strathacona Cup, celebrating its 120 year anniversary, is the world’s oldest international men’s curling bonspiel where every five years Scots and Canadians enjoy a friendly game of curling. This year it's Canada's turn to host with the Eastern arm of the tour taking place in Pictou County.
On the heals of the of the Strathacona Cup, the 49th annual Ship Hector Bonspiel will take place on February 5 to 7. This historic Bonspiel will be hosted among the 4 curling clubs in Pictou County including New Caledonia Curling Club, Stellar Curling Club, Bluenose Curling Club & Westville Curling Club.
